Write for us
We welcome clear, original contributions about making music: instruments, ensemble playing, musical forms, learning habits and the customs that gather around a tune. A strong piece gives readers something specific to notice or try, without assuming specialist knowledge.
What makes a good pitch
Send a concise proposal that names the subject, the central idea and why it will interest amateur music-makers. Tell us what readers will understand differently by the end, and note any sources or permissions the finished piece would require. A distinctive, manageable angle is more useful than a broad promise to cover all of music.
A considered approach
We favour accurate, original writing that explains musical terms when they first appear and respects differences among musical traditions. Avoid unsupported claims, borrowed writing and pitches that depend on expensive equipment or professional access to be useful. Do not submit confidential material or assume that a proposal has been accepted.

Music grows by being shared
A tune can begin with one player and become something larger through attention, patience and company. We value music-making that leaves room for curiosity as well as sound.
